What is the OC test?
The Opportunity Class Placement Test is sat by Year 4 students in NSW applying for an opportunity class in Years 5 and 6 at a public primary school. It is written by Cambridge University Press & Assessment, delivered by Janison, and tests mathematical reasoning, thinking skills and reading.
When is the 2027 OC test?
The 2027 date has not been announced yet. The test has been held in early May in recent years (8–9 May in 2026), so we expect May 2027.
How many questions are in the OC test?
98 questions across three sections: Mathematical Reasoning (35 questions, 40 minutes), Thinking Skills (30 questions, 30 minutes) and Reading (33 questions, 40 minutes). Reading has five parts: a fiction extract, a cloze passage, a poem, a sentence-placement article and four short extracts on one theme.
Are there official OC past papers?
Past papers are not released, but the NSW Department of Education publishes official practice tests with explained answers. They are the best place to start; our papers give more timed practice in the same styles.
Is the OC test the same as the selective test?
No. The OC test is sat in Year 4 for Years 5 and 6. The selective test is sat in Year 6 for high school, and adds a writing section. Both are written by Cambridge, so the question styles are similar.
How much practice is right for a Year 4 child?
Short, regular sessions work better than long ones. One timed paper a week, then going through the explanations together, is plenty for most children. Stop if practice starts to feel like a burden.
