For families far from any of them, Aurora College runs online opportunity classes (about 100 places a year) while the student stays at their local host public primary school, with two residential camps a year. Host-school and remoteness rules apply, so check opportunity classes and the department’s Find an opportunity class map before you preference.
The Equity Placement Model holds up to 20% of places at each OC school for students in equity groups, which include students from rural and remote locations. Placement is still based on test performance within that group. Check the department’s fair-access pages for the current rules.
Prep without a nearby tutor
- Use the official NSW OC practice tests first to get a feel for the format.
- Run short, timed OC papers at home and go through the mistakes the same day. The 5-question OC sample needs no signup.
- Keep sessions short, and use OC papers rather than Year 7 selective mocks, which are pitched two years older.
- Rehearse exam-day travel once so the sitting is not the first long trip of the week.
