How to Find Out If You Got Into a Selective School

How do you find out if you got into a selective school? Log in to the online portal you used to apply. In Victoria, ACER releases a performance report and first-round offers in early August and emails offers too. In NSW, Year 7 selective outcomes appear in the application dashboard in August and OC outcomes in September. The steps for each are below.

Victoria (ACER selective entry — Year 9)

ACER runs applications and offers for the four VIC selective entry schools: Melbourne High, Mac.Robertson Girls’, Nossal and Suzanne Cory. For the June 2026 exam, the performance report and first-round offers were released at 10 am on Monday 3 August 2026, with later rounds on 13 and 20 August. Expect a similar pattern for the June 2027 exam, but check the dates on ACER’s site.

1. Check the key dates on ACER results and selection. First-round offers are also sent by email.
2. Log in to the ACER application portal with the details you used to apply.
3. Open the performance report, then the Offer tab in the left-hand menu.
4. Accept or decline before the deadline. ACER says extensions cannot be granted, and an unanswered offer passes to the next candidate.

NSW Selective High School (Year 7) and OC (Year 5)

Outcomes for the NSW selective test and the OC test appear in the same online application dashboard you used to apply. For 2027 entry, selective outcomes were released on 19 August 2026 and OC outcomes on 9 September 2026.

1. Log in at the NSW application dashboard with the email/password you registered.
2. Select the three dots under the Action column next to your application.
3. Choose View outcomes.
4. Read the outcome for each school preference (Offer, Reserve, Unsuccessful, or N/A as applicable).
5. Open the Student performance report for banded performance information (not a public rank or raw percentage).

What the NSW performance report does (and does not) show

• It places your result in one of four bands compared with that year’s candidates: top 10%, next 15%, next 25%, or lowest 50%.
• It does not show the percentage of questions answered correctly. The Department says test scores and placement ranks cannot be provided.
• A Reserve outcome means a place on the waiting list. If your position is reached, the Selective Education Team emails you, but a reserve place is not a guaranteed offer.
• Appeals have a short window, typically 5 business days after outcomes are released.

Years 8–12 / out-of-year entry

• Reset password using the registered email.
• Search spam/junk for portal messages.
• Contact Selective Education (NSW) via the dashboard message function, or ACER support (VIC) using the contacts on the apply portal.
